Out on day release in Helsinki!

Helsinki Cathedral - Finnish Evangelical Lutheran (opened 1852), Senate Square.  Government Palace, Helsinki University and the oldest building in central Helsinki dating from mid 1700s are on the other sides of the square.

Statue of Emperor Alexander 11 of Finland sits at centre of Senate Square and that sea gull did not move while we were there!

Sibelius Monument from 1967 erected 10 years after the death of Jean Sibelius.  It consists of more than 600 hollow steel pipes.

Rock Church, another Lutheran Church, was built in 1969 by excavating the site and constructing the church from the excavated rock with a skylight topped by a copper dome.

Detail of the dome...

Met some old friends at Helsinki Central Railway Station....

Finnish design at its best....no seagulls swooping at your food with those "black birds flying around" in the wind....great idea the Sydney Opera House should take on!

But then we walked up the main boulevard and ever statue had a seagull in situ!

Until we arrive at these two beautiful ladies!
